A revolutionary company called Cryoow! can take any drawing, big or small, and turn it into a stuffed plush doll.
“Our goal is to bring the drawings to life; something you can play with, hug and love,” says the company’s Facebook page. “A doll that you designed yourself, hence the name Cryoow! = CReate YOur OWn!”
The company, founded in 2004, began bringing dolls to life after the owner’s seven-year-old daughter asked a seamstress to make her drawing into a doll. She said that hugging and kissing a piece of paper was no fun.
After that, the first Cryoow! doll was born. Tom was made for Nora, and her parents say that, to this day, she doesn’t like to be separated from her plush pal — even long enough for him to be repaired or take a bath in the washing machine.
Each doll is handmade by a seamstress in Bali. The company promises to complete customer orders within two weeks. The doll should arrive at the customer’s house only three working days after it is completed.
The Cryoow! Company says that the dolls are great gifts for children, but can also be great for mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings. But not only can individuals order Cryoow! dolls, companies can also sponsor Cryoow! events where children can draw on a prepared sheet and then a panel of judges or people who are friends with the company on Facebook can vote for their favorites.
“There are no limitations to your fantasy when you draw the original from which we create your Cryoow! doll,” the company’s website says.
The finished dolls stand around 10 inches tall, but the company requests that the submitted drawing be minimal 4 inches tall. The company also suggests that the picture be detailed. If you send them a picture of a stick figure, you can expect the same back in the mail after around three weeks.
Cryoow! company owner Waly Hurlimann said that he will discount the dolls to $98 U.S. currency for any Cryoow! event.
Not only are these dolls supporting creativity around the world, they are also helping the economy in Bali. The seamstresses who work with Cryoow! receive full health coverage, paid maternity leave and receive 20 percent more money than minimum wage workers.
“We started this project because we see the urgent need of good jobs for women here in Bali so they can support their families. Like in many parts of the world, women are still not respected as they should and are often neglected,” Hurlimann said. “We want to change that where we live in a sustainable way and with your support.”
Hurlimann maintains that the best part about the Cryoow! company is that no doll ever comes out the same.
