T-Mobile iPhone 6 and T-Mobile iPhone 6 Plus sales were the crucial T-Mobile CEO John Legere's themes that was discussed at Recode’s Code/Mobile event today.
John Legere began to work as chief executive two years ago. And since that time T-Mobile has added 20 million subscribers. Legere took aggressive pricing strategies. T-Mobile company serves 53 million customers now.
Today T-Mobile announced about their earnings for the September quarter. It also added 2.3 million customers (1.4 million postpaid) making it the biggest growth quarter in T-Mobile history.
Legere taking position as CEO understood the iPhone's importance to T-Mobile's success. And Apple handset was one of his main goals on the carrier's network.
At the Code/Mobile conference in an interview T-Mobile CEO John Legere talked about iPhone 6 sales the demand for the new generation Smartphones.
First he explained what the differenece between locked iPhone 6 and already unlocked was. The point is that if you purchase iPhone 6 or 6 Plus at T-Mobile it will be locked to T-Mobile. And if you are looking to use other networks you have to use unlock iPhone 6 T-Mobile service (because T-Mobile will not unlock your device if it would be still under contract). The same is with other US networks. Also he said that the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus was the biggest ever on T-Mobile’s network.
The demand at one point of time was at a 55:45 ratio. It is higher than the 75:25 ratio as anticipated by many.
Legere noted that demand for the larger iPhone 6 Plus has been “mind blowing”.
From the John Legere interview:
“Demand for the larger device has been, in a word, “surprising.” I can’t really give specific details on current ratios, but at one point, sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were roughly equal, which no one anticipated.”
Legere claims that supply and demand for the new Smartphones is starting to even out, but it will “be a while” before T-Mobile can get to everyone.
