LAKESIDE STUDENTS GET PREPPED FOR THE FUTURE OF A GLOBAL SOCIETY WITH RIVERVIEW INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY’S TRILINGUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Lakeside Union School District, known for its innovative and progressive programs, is home to the first trilingual program in Southern California. Riverview International Academy is also the most successful trilingual program in the region where students are challenged to become lifelong learners and leaders. The school combines outstanding technology, critical thinking, and arts curriculum to impressive Mandarin and Spanish Immersion programs to provide each student who comes through Riverview a stable and practical foundation for their future. Everything at Riverview is focused on the motto of the school: Creating tomorrow’s global leaders today.

“When you join the Riverview family, you join a community of parents who care about the success of their children as much as you do,” says Dr. Brian Thurman, principal of Riverview International Academy. The community at Riverview is filled with parents and students who are excited about the future and ready to learn and prepare for it. Many parents truly appreciate the passion and heart all the staff members at Riverview have for bilingual and trilingual learning that sets their students up to go in many different directions for careers.

The students at Riverview International Academy admit that the bilingual or trilingual programs are a lot of work, but say the programs are still fun and are definitely worth it because of the opportunities opened to them. These students will enjoy the many benefits of having a bilingual brain. It has been proven that bilinguals can focus better, switch between different tasks easier, and adapt to changes more quickly. These students will have more jobs opened to them, a more open mind and global perspective, and will have the skills to learn more languages faster in the future.

One facet of Riverview International Academy’s programs is the pathway that leads all the way to high school. Immersion in elementary schools lays down the foundation of a language that will continue on into middle school, where more building blocks to the language are fostered along with cultural learning. This leads to the Global Language and Leadership program at El Capitan High School where many Riverview students will attend. Abigail Anders, Program Coordinator for the Global Language & Leadership Program, says, “The more languages a child speaks, the more opportunities they have, the more ability they’re going to have to make a difference in the world and make change in whatever sector they're in.”
