Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival attracts more than 20,000 attendees at annual Jazz celebration in Haiti

The annual Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival otherwise known as PAPJAZZ has grown to become one of the largest and most eagerly anticipated Festivals not only in the Caribbean, but also across the globe, attracting thousands of jazz lovers and lovers of good music of all ages from across the globe. The 2018 edition of the event, which is the 12th, has been scheduled to kick off from January 20-27, 2018 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The week-long Festival will feature several internationally-renowned jazz artists, with more than ten top International Jazz headliners already confirmed for the event. Attendees will also be treated to the best of Caribbean and Haitian music from top musical artists.

Organized by The Haiti Jazz Foundation, this year’s edition is set to continue in the steps of past editions, remaining true to the heart and soul of Jazz music. Some of the acts that have been confirmed for this year’s PAPJAZZ include Grammy Award-Winning Saxophonist Kenny Garrett, Brazilian icon, singer Leila Pinheiro, Grammy Award-Winning Guitar player Norman Brown, Canada’s Juno and Felix awards recipient for Vocal Jazz Album of the year, singer Emilie-Claire Barlow, French revolutionary bass player Dominique Di Piazza, winner of “Victoire de la Musique” for best Jazz Album.

Some of the acts to provide the over 20,000 attendees with the best of Haitian music include Strings and its tropical flamenco, Beethova Obas for a creole Bossa nova, the flamboyant Rutshelle Guillaume, RAM for a touch of Voodoo music and EDM DJ Michael Brun.

Haiti Jazz Foundation President, Joel Widmaier is elated at the remarkable growth of the event has since its inception in 2007. Haiti’s edge and strength from a social & touristic perspective, is its culture and the Port-au-Prince International Jazz festival is a platform that showcases not only jazz music from all over the world, but also all the diversity of the rich Haitian music and art. Approaching this 12th edition, we can proudly say that the PAPJAZZ fest is unique, well organized, caters to all audiences and is a must.

The event is comprised of evenings of music concerts, with ten different stages across Haiti. At the end of each concert are after-hours jam sessions at top Haitian restaurants with our guest musicians, allowing visitors to discover great French and Creole infused cuisine while jamming the night away to the groovy sounds of Haitian roots music. The event will also feature workshops and empowerment seminars, with guest musicians offering advice for the development of upcoming local Haitian musicians.

The festival will be closing on a high, with the closing ceremony at the All-Inclusive Royal Decameron Beach and Resort Spa located in Cote des Arcadins. About the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival

Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival is organized by The Haiti Jazz Foundation, a nonprofit organization and was first held in 2007. The jazz festival holds every year during the last week of January, featuring musicians from all over the world, with each evening having 10 different stages around the capital city.

The steering committee of the Festival includes the public sector with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism, the international community via 10 embassies, the civil society and private sponsor.
