Lawmakers Revive Law to Protect Web Consumer Data

We're going to continue to drive this agenda forward so consumers know their privacy is at risk.
On his first days as president, Trump has promised to cut regulations on many businesses. This resulted to his allies scraping bills created by Obama that restrict how broadband providers used web user's data. However, there are reasons to believe that the lawmakers plan to reverse their decision.

Almost two dozen lawmakers from various state capitols have expressed their intention to help increase consumer privacy regulations. The proposals intend to limit the way the three biggest broadband providers, AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp., on how they can use data collected from their customers.

Reports say that such moves show that there are still many states that oppose the changes that are being brought about by the Trump administrations. Other instances that showed this opposition is when the Trump Administration decided to pull out from the international environmental protection agreement, the Paris Climate Accord.

Governors from large states such as Washington, New York, and California created their own coalition to battle climate change. California also expressed their willingness to fight against any effort coming from Trump that intends to lower the fuel-efficiency standards for automobiles.

According to sources, lawmakers from thirty-five states are also pushing for a law that forces broadband companies to match their internet speeds as to how they advertise them.

Internet providers have been known to sell data collected from consumers to third parties for marketing purposes. Unlike search engine providers like Google that use the data on their own to improve their search results for users. This is why SEO strategies have become famous over the past years.

"If the federal government lags, the states have to lead. And that's what we're doing," said Democratic New York state senator Tim Kennedy. Kennedy proposed a bill which seeks to prevent internet providers from selling internet data from customers such as social media histories, web searches, or any other personal information to outside parties.

Due to a Republican-Dominated Senate, Kennedy’s first attempt to pass the bill became futile. However, he said that he will not stop until the bill fully becomes a law. According to him, "We're going to continue to drive this agenda forward so consumers know their privacy is at risk.”. According to him, such decisions by the administration are made to protect the interests of large corporations, regardless the negative effects it has on the populace.

He added that if the bill becomes a law, broadband providers like Verizon would need consumer’s consent before selling information regarding the latter. The bill covers internet providers regulated by the Federal Communications Commission, web-based companies that collect data such as Facebook or Google, are not within the scope of the proposal.

David Clabeaux Announces Plans for Historic Office Building

David Clabeaux, along with his wife Abigail, have recently purchased 830 Monmouth and begun plans to renovate the building.  “Our plans are to renovate the building while maintaining as many of the historic elements of the building as possible.  We will be creating inexpensive, furnished single person executive office suites on all 3 floors.  We will leave exposed brick walls, original tin ceilings, and restore the existing ornate woodwork.  There are some really amazing elements to this building,” said Dave.

830 Monmouth was built in the 1890’s, and is on the National Historic Registry of historic buildings, along with the adjacent properties on Monmouth between 3rd and 11th streets.   David Clabeaux’s vision for the building is to turn it into a living museum representing the era when it was originally built.  According to David, “We plan to decorate the interior of the building with historic artifacts and pictures from the late 19th century and early 20th century.  We want the pictures and artifacts to tell the story of the building throughout the years an the many purposes it served.”

Each floor of the building will have approximately 10 single-person, furnished executive office suites.  Each floor will also have a conference room, as well as restrooms and a break room with full kitchen and refrigerator.

The offices will lease for $350 per month all inclusive, and will include, among other things, free wifi, all utilities, weekly cleanings, access to common areas.

“The goal is to create affordable office space for people who need a home office away from home,” said David.  “We are breaking the mold on institutional, stuffy, fluorescent light offices.  We want people to be excited to come to work and proud of the building they work in and the people they work with.  We spend a large portion of our lives at work or in offices, so why not make those spaces exciting, comfortable and inviting?”

David Clabeaux and his wife Abigail moved to the Northern Kentucky area in June of 2016. In addition to the project on Monmouth in Newport, they are also rehabbing residential houses at a pace of 3-4 homes per year.  “I love rehabbing houses.  There is nothing more rewarding than taking an ugly home, making it beautiful, and handing the keys over to a new family.  We are so fortunate to be able to make a good living by improving our community.  To us it honestly isn’t even work.  We enjoy seeing our vision for each house come to fruition.”

Professor Jonathan Kuhn is a geneticist with a PhD in Genetics from the University of California and his post doctoral studies were at Purdue University in the Department of Biochemistry. For the last three years he has been a visiting professor of biology at New York University, Shanghai, China.

He was involved in the founding of four biotechnology companies in the area of applied genetic engineering and nanotechnology. Files in AVCHD format use legacy "8.3" file naming convention, while Blu-ray Discs use long filenames. This is why the filename extension of video files is ".MTS" instead of Blu-ray Disc's ".m2ts". Also, other files use different extensions: .CPI – .clpi, .MPL – .mpls, .BDM – .bdmv.
