As an advanced strategy, DNA immunization enables the immunized hosts to produce interested antigens in vivo with common post-transcriptional modifications and then induce a powerful immune response.
Compared to traditional immunization methods, DNA immunization permits in vivo antigen production, omitting the time-consuming processes of immunogens synthesis and purification, such as peptides and recombinant proteins. In addition, these in vivo expressed proteins can maximally maintain the naïve structures and go through appropriate post-transcriptional modifications.
