KTGY-designed 55+ Communities Win Gold from National Association of Home Builders 55+ Housing Council

Award Wins Highlight Importance of Boomer-focused Amenities and Lifestyle and Ability to Personalize the Home

IRVINE, CALIF. - National award-winning firm KTGY Architecture + Planning is pleased to announce that four KTGY-designed 55+ communities have garnered seven top honors in the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) 55+ Housing Council’s Best of 55+ Housing Awards competition. The communities that were recognized include a luxury single-family detached residential community, two apartment communities and a contemporary-styled urban village that targets adults 55+.

The NAHB Best of 55+ Housing Awards is the industry’s only national awards program honoring excellence in building, design, lifestyle and marketing of housing that appeals to boomers and beyond. The Best of 55+ Housing Awards are viewed by the industry and media as a prestigious showcase for innovation, emerging trends and quality housing that serves the mature demographic.

KTGY’s award-winning designs are:

1. The Freedom Collection at Victory at Verrado in Buckeye, Arizona, developed by Maracay Homes.

Gold Award for Best 55+ Universal Design Home or Community.
Gold Award for Best 55+ Detached Home 1,701-2,400 Square Feet for the Entertainer Plan.
Gold Award for Best 55+ Detached Home Over 2,400 Square Feet for the Traveler Plan.

Located near Phoenix in the all-ages Verrado master plan community, the homes’ age-targeted design sets a new industry standard for active-adult homes that respond to today’s Boomer preferences and creates a new level of livability with Universal Design throughout, one of the first communities in the U.S. to utilize Universal Design to this extreme.

2. Azulon at Mesa Verde in Costa Mesa, California, developed by MV Partners, an affiliate of C.J. Segerstrom & Sons.

Gold Award for Best 55+ Market Rate Rental Community.

Azulon at Mesa Verde is a resort-inspired, age-qualified apartment community in Orange County located on the 7.5-acre site of a former 50-year-old entertainment center. Residents can safely walk to the adjacent supermarket-anchored shopping center without having to cross a street or parking lot. The inboard bedroom plan provides privacy from the outside and a great room layout with a formal entryway. The inboard bedroom floor plan has been the most popular and was the fastest to lease up.

3. Latitude in Summerlin, Nevada, developed by Newport Pacific Land Company LLC.

Gold Award for Best 55+ For-Sale Community On the Boards.
Gold Award for Best 55+ Attached Home On the Boards for the Vertical Duplex Homes.

As a result of collaboration between two architectural firms, buyers can select from different types of living environments that cater to the need for single-level living, Universal Design and indoor/outdoor entertaining lifestyle. Stacking of units in a duplex building is a new concept to this market and was developed by KTGY to appeal to move-down buyers. Each unit lives like a single-family home since there are no shared/common walls but at townhome densities.

4. Camino del Rey Senior Apartments in Santa Clara, California developed by ROEM Development Corporation.

Silver Award for Best 55+ Affordable Rental Community.

Camino del Rey offers 48 one-bedroom apartments that are affordable to seniors with annual incomes that are at or below 60% of the Santa Clara County Area Median Income. This development consists of a three-story “C” shaped building, wrapping itself around an enclosed landscaped courtyard and acting as an outdoor extension of the community room with pedestrian access to parking and entry spaces. This apartment community is LEED-H Platinum Certified.

The Best of 55+ Housing Awards were presented on January 19, 2016 at the Best of 55+ Housing Award Gala as part of the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, Nev.
