Project Background
A certain fine chemical enterprise in the Middle East mainly produces dyes and their intermediate products. During the production process, it generates a large amount of acidic slurry with high color and high salt content. Efficient solid-liquid separation equipment is needed to separate the solid crystals from the reaction products in the mother liquor. Previously, the customer used a centrifuge for separation, but there were problems such as high liquid content in the filter residue, high energy consumption for subsequent drying, and the sealing parts being easily corroded and leaked by the acidic materials when the centrifuge was running at high speed. The customer has put forward high requirements for the corrosion resistance, filtration efficiency and operational safety of the equipment.
Solution
Due to the low pH value of the materials, the fine solid particles and their certain stickiness, the technical team selected the XMY20-630/30 box-type filter press for the customer. This model adopts a central hole feeding method, where the slurry is quickly and evenly injected into each filter chamber from the center of the filter plate, avoiding the problems of feed channel blockage and uneven filling of filter chambers that may occur when using corner feeding in high-viscosity materials.

The frame is made of carbon steel and coated with anti-corrosion paint, which meets the requirements for use in general chemical environments. The key anti-corrosion feature is the accompanying double-sided PVC water collection trough - it effectively collects the acidic mother liquor seeping out from the filter cloth during the pressure filtration process, preventing it from dripping and corroding the bottom of the frame and the floor of the workshop. At the same time, the two water troughs are divided for drainage, facilitating the diversion and recovery of different quality filtrate streams.
In terms of operation, the automatic hydraulic pressing system provides stable and reliable sealing pressure, ensuring no leakage or spillage of the filter cake under a filtration pressure of 0.3 MPa. The discharge is designed with a manual pull plate mechanism. For materials like dye intermediates with strong adhesion to the filter cake, operators can flexibly control the discharge rhythm. When there is a large amount of residue on the filter cloth, they can promptly clean it to avoid filter cloth blockage and affect the filtration efficiency of the next cycle. The double flow design enables operators to visually compare the clarity of the liquid output from each filter plate. When the liquid output from a certain filter plate is significantly turbid, they can quickly identify the damaged filter cloth and replace it, significantly reducing the time for troubleshooting.
Operating effect
After the equipment was put into production, the single batch filtration cycle remained stable. The moisture content of the filter cake was reduced by nearly ten percentage points compared to the original centrifuge process. The subsequent fluidized bed drying time was shortened, and energy consumption decreased simultaneously. The clarity of the mother liquor significantly improved, with the suspended matter content greatly reduced, effectively alleviating the burden of the mother liquor recovery and refining process.
