Aspiration: If one day my ambition reaches the clouds, I dare laugh at Huang Chao for lacking true heroism.
The Spring Festival of 2026 came during an unusually warm winter in Lingnan, filled with the vibrant atmosphere of everyday life and layered with countless emotions. Leaving behind the fast pace and tension of city life and returning to the land where I was raised, time seemed to slow down and the festive spirit of the New Year grew stronger. Every moment I experienced became a vivid memory etched in my heart.
By the twenty-fourth or twenty-fifth day of the twelfth lunar month, the kitchen at home had already become lively. The whole family gathered to make tanghuan (traditional fried sugar rings), creating one of the warmest opening scenes of the Spring Festival. Without the neat precision of an assembly line, the dough was rolled into thin strips in our hands and twisted into the shape of the number “8.” Once placed into hot oil, they slowly turned golden and crispy. Though they were not as glossy or perfect as store-bought ones, they were clean, homemade, and filled with heartfelt effort.
Children gathered around the stove, temporarily forgetting their electronic devices. They helped pass the dough and collect the finished rings while the adults chatted about everyday life. The sound of chopping boards, the aroma of food, and bursts of laughter filled the house. Each bowl of freshly fried sugar rings was not only part of preparing New Year snacks, but also a way of weaving traditional festive flavors into daily life, sweetening the passage of time itself.

Homemade Sugar Rings, Sweetening the Years
The warm winter sunshine was especially generous, dispelling the chill of the season and making the countryside feel even more vibrant. The newly built community sports field in the village hosted its first big event on the first day of the Lunar New Year — a fan meet-up organized by Qing Ge, a well-known second-hand car dealer.
At ten in the morning, the field was already filled with people. On the printed backdrop, the words “Gaoliang Town Luoyang” and “Qing Ge Fan Gathering” stood out clearly, alongside the 2026 Year of the Horse symbol and the phrase “Unity,” reflecting the strong sense of community in the countryside.
The event was lively both online and offline. In the livestream hosted by “Zhongshan Yonghong Used Cars – Qing Ge,” more than 2,500 viewers tuned in and over 12,000 likes flooded the screen. Comments scrolled quickly—some viewers exclaimed, “This looks fun, I want to come too!” Others had traveled from Meizhou and Zhaoqing to attend, while many asked online, “Are there still tickets available?”
On the stage, prizes such as laundry detergent and daily necessities were neatly arranged. The giveaways echoed the generous benefits announced during the event, including discounts on cars, washing machines, and refrigerators. Villagers gathered together, winning prizes and enjoying the festive atmosphere.
After achieving success outside the village, Qing Ge did not forget his hometown. By organizing such a lively event, he brought energy back to the community and offered gifts to local residents. This heartfelt connection to one’s roots added an extra layer of warmth to the Spring Festival.

Village Bonds That Warm the Heart
Reunions and reflections also became special notes in this year’s Spring Festival. By chance, I met a high school classmate I had not seen for eighteen years since graduation. Across nearly two decades of time, our conversation about life updates was filled with emotion.
After the pandemic restrictions were lifted, the economic environment declined, and he moved to Zhejiang to pursue opportunities. His child remained in the hometown for school. The challenges of working far away and the helplessness of being separated from family were hidden within every sentence he spoke.
When we discussed career plans, I shared recruitment information from my company. Our company focuses on electronic connectors and RF antennas and is currently hiring due to rapid business growth. Positions such as foreign trade manager and foreign trade sales representative match his years of experience in market development. The company is located in Shenzhen with convenient transportation, and if he joined, he could both utilize his expertise and remain closer to his child back home.
Our generation continues to navigate the waves of the times—working hard for life and family. The realities and challenges we face have become the most genuine emotions shared during Spring Festival reunions. Yet when looking at the lively village scenes and the smiling faces of family members, it becomes clear that no matter how difficult life outside may be, one’s hometown will always remain the safest harbor.
During my free time, I took a walk through Jinlin Water Village, a Lingnan ancient village with over 1,700 years of history. In the warm winter, it displayed its unique charm. The environment has become even more beautiful—clear water flows around the village, ancient trees tower overhead, and red lanterns hang from branches. Fragments of firecrackers scattered across the stone pathways carried a strong festive atmosphere. Visitors from many places came to explore, taking photos at popular scenic spots, making the ancient village’s cultural heritage feel more vivid than ever.
Children’s joy was the most touching sight in the water village. Two little ones wearing red hoodies played happily by the stream, crouching on the stone bank and stirring the water with small wooden sticks. Ripples spread across the surface while one boy stood laughing loudly, calling out his friend’s name. A simple stream and a few fallen leaves were enough to fill their hearts with delight. Later at the local market, pink cotton candy became their special treat. With eyes closed, they took big bites of the fluffy sweetness, letting the sugary taste spread from their lips to their hearts—becoming one of the brightest memories of childhood Spring Festivals.

Happy Childhood, A Sweet Memory
Perhaps the most touching moments were the everyday warmth shared with family. It had been a long time since I had seen my mother laugh so freely. In the courtyard of our rural home, she picked up a badminton racket and began playing with her son. Usually gentle and reserved, she turned out to be surprisingly agile, and the match between young and old was evenly balanced. With each swing of the rackets, laughter filled the entire courtyard.
The sunlight was warm and soft, shining on the red Spring Festival couplets and the white courtyard walls, as well as on their lively figures. In that moment, the warmth of family life surpassed any worldly splendor.

The Deep Bond Between Grandparent and Grandchild
As night fell, fireworks illuminated the sky. Golden sparks burst open against the deep darkness, radiating light across the sky. The edges glowed with faint purple halos while red streaks shot upward into the night—brilliant and passionate.
Fireworks are beautiful but fleeting, much like the days of the Spring Festival—brief yet precious. They witnessed the sweetness of sugar rings, the liveliness of the ancient village, and the joyful smiles of family. They also carried the emotions of reunion and the hopes we hold for life.

Fireworks and Warmth
This Spring Festival had no dramatic events, yet it was filled with countless small and beautiful moments: the simplicity and liveliness of village life, the warmth of family companionship, the complex emotions of reunion, and heartfelt reflections on life.
Fireworks fade quickly, but affection endures. Time moves on, yet warmth remains. The experiences of this warm spring during the 2026 Year of the Horse will become one of the most treasured memories in my heart. Carrying this warmth and the lively spirit of my hometown, I will calmly set off toward the journeys and possibilities of the new year.
