About the Author:

Yonnas Kefle, an economist and former U.S. diplomat, brings a wealth of experience to his book, “Energy and the Political Economy of Nations.” Originally from Africa, Kefle pursued his education across Europe and the United States, culminating in a Ph.D. in Economics from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Additionally, Kefle is also the author of the book “Accidental American.”

His professional journey includes roles as an economist at the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics and later as a diplomat in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. During this period, Kefle witnessed the severe impacts of global warming in the Caribbean, reigniting his childhood dream of providing electricity to rural communities that depended heavily on basic energy sources such as iron ore, charcoal, and kerosene.

His motivation for writing “Energy and the Political Economy of Nations” stems from a desire to highlight the ramifications of unrestrained energy consumption on national economies and humanity’s destiny. As fossil fuel-based energy dwindles and environmental repercussions intensify, Kefle’s book acts as a timely call to action for a sustainable future.
