Bitcoin Donations pour in as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrested!

The world witnessed a very disturbing incident recently, which once again showed us how whistle blowers will never be safe from persecution.

Julian Assange, the man behind WikiLeaks, was arrested on April 11 in London, post an extradition agreement with the United States. He was arrested from the Ecuador embassy in London, where he was seeking asylum.

However, recent sources claim that Bitcoin donations hav been pouring in for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, in a bid to make sure that his legacy continues, by contributing to his legal defense fund. What he started with WikiLeaks, was an incredible campaign to expose the darkest secrets of most administrations, and people high up on the social ladder with significant wealth and power.

Donations started to go through the roof after the official Wikileaks account posted a tweet yesterday, asking for contributions to Assange's legal defense fund. That tweet has since been deleted. However, the donations are pouring in ever since that tweet was posted.

According to latest sources, in the past 24 hours, the Wikileaks bitcoin wallet address has received 314 transactions. Contributions now amount to 6.7 BTC, or roughly $34,000. This is by no means a small amount, and infact indicate how people are agitated over this abrupt arrest. Additonally, donations are also being made in fiat currency.

It’s not like Assange is a stranger to Bitcoin. In fact, he has long been a fan of the cryptocurrency. In 2017, Assange tweeted that bitcoin is the real Occupy Wall Street, referring to the progressive anti-consumerist movement that was launched in 2011.

We can only hope that enough Bitcoin donations make it to Assange in time, so that he can afford the legal help that he so desparately needs right now.
