23-year-old Eric Anthony Lopez Makes Broadway Musical History

The original Harold Prince staging of Broadway's longest-running musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera musical is set for new World Tour, which kicks off in February 2019 in Manila, starring LoveNeverDiesStar Meghan Picerno.

23-year-old Eric Anthony Lopez (fresh off his critically acclaimed run as Tenor Tony in the Chicago Revival of Terrence McNallyʼs Tony Award-winning play MASTER CLASS) is making theatrical history by becoming the youngest actor, understudy or otherwise to be cast to portray role of “Ubaldo Pianji” in the history of The Phantom of the Opera worldwide franchise. Lopez will understudy the leading opera tenor role, with his main responsibilities in the ensemble for the musicals 8 shows a week.

After numerous rounds of callbacks, with the final session reviewed by PHANTOM composer Andrew Lloyd Webber & titan producer Cameron Mackintosh of The Really Useful Group, Lopez got the call in June 2018.

“I am so incredibly thankful to be involved with my favorite show that already has so much legacy behind it. Getting the opportunity to see the world, Singing Sir. Andrew Lloyd Webberʼs score & make a living being a performer is really a dream come true” Lopez said his @eric.anthony.lopez Instagram, which boasts an impressive 19k and counting following:
