The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2017, duck meat imports increased by +66.3% against its level of 2009. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when imports increased by 11% y-o-y. Over the period under review, duck meat imports reached its maximum volume in 2017, and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, duck meat imports stood at $1.4B in 2017. Overall, it indicated a prominent growth from 2007 to 2017: the total imports value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last ten years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2017, duck meat imports increased by +85.5% against its level of 2009. Global import peaked in 2017, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.
Duck meat Imports By Country
In 2017, Germany (40K tonnes), Kyrgyzstan (29K tonnes), and France (28K tonnes) were the key importers of duck, goose and guinea fowl in the world, mixed up 45% of total import. Belgium (18K tonnes) took a 8% share (based on tonnes) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Denmark (6%), Spain (5%), and the Czech Republic (5%). Austria (7.9K tonnes), China, Macao SAR (6.4K tonnes), Slovakia (4.5K tonnes), the U.S. (3.9K tonnes), and Italy (3.5K tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2007 to 2017, the most notable growth rate of imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+44.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($399M), Belgium ($248M), and France ($203M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2017, together comprising 63% of global imports. Austria, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Spain, Kyrgyzstan, Italy, Slovakia, the U.S. and China, Macao SAR lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
Kyrgyzstan (+55.2% per year) experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to the imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 10 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Duck meat Import Prices By Country
The average duck meat import price stood at $6,161 per tonne in 2017, stabilizing at the previous year level. Over the last ten years it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008, when it surged by 13% year-to-year. Global import price peaked in 2017, and is likely to continue its growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2017, the country with the highest import price was Belgium ($14 per kg), while Kyrgyzstan ($787 per tonne) was among the lowest.
From 2007 to 2017, the most notable growth rate of import prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+7.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
