Jessy Lai’ Charity Honeymoon Trip in Vietnam

Jessy Lai’ Charity Honeymoon Trip as arrived in Vietnam. This stop is also to promote the SJC 1000 Days Programme, a collaboration between Lai and UNICEF. Earlier, the team visited Philippines for the same purpose, and has set up development programmes for children in need. Lai also discussed strategies for the SJC 1000 Days Programme with the Officer In Charge of Philippines’ Child Health Division, Family Health Office.

Lai was in Vietnam for three days. Within these three days, Lai and UNICEF visited three health departments in Dien Bien: the Dien Bien provincial Department of Health (DOH), Hua Ngai Community Health Center, and the Muong Cha District Health Center.

On day 1, Lai met with the chairperson of DOH, who explained the agenda for the following two days. Together with DOH, Lai visited Hua Ngai Community Health Center the next day.

Because knowledge about early childhood nutrition is scarce in rural areas, many Vietnamese households are unaware of the importance of good nutrition within the first 1000 days of a child’s life. Malnutrition at this stage can cause stunted growth, affecting the physical and brain development of children. That means kids won’t get to realise their full potential, affecting both their academic performance and income in future.

To ensure that all health workers have sufficient knowledge about early childhood care, UNICEF and DOH set up a simple crash course. The class will teach health workers to carry out pregnancy tests, deliver babies, care for newborns, and educate parents about childhood nutrition. Medical professionals are employed throughout the process to ensure the right knowledge is passed on.

After the crash course, Lai, UNICEF, and DOH visited 2 families to educate parents on early childhood care and nutrition.

The last agenda on this trip is to visit Muong Cha District Health Centre. Lai, UNICEF, and DOH held a meeting with the officers and doctors at the centre to discuss early childhood care. They also took a tour of the health centre’s facility for newborn babies.

After Vietnam, the month-long Jessy Lai’ Charity Honeymoon Trip has finally come to an end. But this does not mean Lai is slowing down in charity work. In fact, Lai will be attending even more charity events, inspiring others to do the same by setting an example.
