Second Wind Dreams Offers World-Renowned Virtual Dementia Tour at the Georgia 2018 Accessibility Conference

Roswell, GA - March 21, 2018 - Second Wind Dreams®, an internationally known non-profit organization focused on enhancing the quality of life for elders, announced today they will offer their Virtual Dementia Tour® (VDT®) at the Georgia 2018 Accessibility Conference. The educational conference will focus on the use of innovative technologies for library systems to provide accessible materials to those living with disabilities. The conference takes place March 26 – 28 at the Lake Blackshear Resort in Cordele, GA. The VDT will be available for attendees to experience on March 27.

The VDT, Second Wind Dreams’ flagship program, which has been experienced by millions in 20 countries, is an innovative and scientifically proven training used to build a personal understanding of dementia. During the experiential path of the VDT, trained facilitators guide participants outfitted with patented devices that temporarily alter their senses while they try to complete common everyday tasks and exercises. The VDT allows individuals to personally experience the physical and cognitive challenges facing those with dementia by “walking in their shoes.”

“A new case of dementia is diagnosed every 3 seconds making it one of the most important human rights crises of our time,” said Second Wind Dreams, CEO, P.K. Beville. “The number of people living with dementia is expected to increase to 75 million in the next ten years and there is still a lack of understanding when it comes to caring for those living with dementia. It is critical we drive better person-centered care and the VDT allows us to do just that.”

The VDT will give attendees a hands-on experience enabling them to use this technology and grow dementia-friendly library services world-wide.
