Whichit’s new ad unit allows businesses to advertise to the visually impaired

The solution launched by Whichit, will help brands engage with visually impaired customers through an interactive native ad unit.

Great news for the millions of businesses that want to represent greater diversity in their advertising. The marketing tools introduced by Whichit, the online advertisement platform, that are already reshaping the way brands promote their content online, will now help brands engage with their visually impaired customers. Estimates by The World Health Organization (WHO) and The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) suggest 253 million people around the world live with vision impairment, and more than 2 million people in the UK - or one in 30 people - live with sight loss. The forecast shows the numbers affected in the UK will continue to rise to over 2,250,000 million by 2020. Representing a significant section of consumers, Whichit is committed to help brands drive inclusivity and diversity by targeting them with their ads online. Although accessibility compliance is a requirement for government and institutional websites, it is important to all businesses to represent greater diversity in their advertising, as the inability to engage with these consumers could be costly, both from an ethical and economic perspective.

“’Interactive Commercial Content’, is a great way for a brand to drive sales and understand market trends by creating ads their audience WANT to interact with,” said Jonathan Gan, Whichit's CEO & Founder, while introducing the platform. “Now, we are taking this experience to a whole new level. We have included Audio Descriptions and Keyboard navigation in our embedded ad units, which makes the visual experience accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired,” he added.

Thanks to being Keyboard Accessible, now visually impaired users will be able to navigate through Whichit interactive ad units in the form of quizzes, surveys or polls with the use of just their keyboard and Tab key. Additionally, being Screen Reader Compatible, and having a commercial message that complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG AAA) standard, Whichit Native Ads empower users to know they are interacting with right content and getting the right commercial offer.
