Holmdel, NJ - Spectronn, a U.S. based innovative wireless startup company, has partnered with ICT Works in South Africa, to market and deploy its software-defined smart wireless networking technology. S. Africa’s transportation, mining, and other industries are expected to benefit with the adoption of the rapidly deployable and scalable wireless technology.

S. Africa’s transportation industry is well developed. At more than 700,000 Km it has the longest network of roads in all of Africa. Bringing reliable mobile wireless connectivity to the transportation industry such as onboard WiFi in buses, trains, and trucks, is the next major step towards their smart cities vision. Connected transportation will lead to better passenger safety, additional revenue generation, and efficiencies in supply chain management.

The mining industry is a major contributor to S. Africa’s economy. Resilient and high-speed mobile edge computing is essential for mining safety. Affordable wireless broadband also provides economic and distance education opportunities to rural towns surrounding the mines.

Spectronn’s software-defined cognitive heterogeneous wireless networking (HetNet) technology provides reliable and high-speed backhaul connectivity to mobile things such as buses as well as to challenging environments such as mines or rural areas. The cloud-managed HetNet wireless router intelligently manages multiple network connections (both wired and wireless) for a superior WiFi experience.

“At ICT-Works we are always on the look-out for technological products that will help us improve our offering to our clients across the continent. This is one such product, and we are very excited to partner with Spectronn on taking a step in the right direction in the vision of a connected Africa”, says the CEO of ICT-Works, Xoliswa Kakana.

“This partnership will address a major wireless technology gap for connected transportation and smart city applications, not only in S. Africa but also in other African countries.,” says Spectronn Co-Founder and CEO, R. Chandramouli.

Spectronn and ICT Works have jointly set up an advanced technology demonstration infrastructure in Pretoria to address the needs of the local industry and to customize the technology.
