Second Wind Dreams’ Gifts of Light Program Underway for 17th Year; Brings Holiday Cheer to Nursing Homes

Roswell, GA - December 11, 2017 - Driving its mission to enhance the quality of life for elders through the fulfillment of dreams and educational programs, Second Wind Dreams announced today their Gifts of Light program is underway for its 17th year.

The Gifts of Light program is hosted annually during the holidays, gathering volunteers and corporate sponsors to adopt neglected nursing home residents, some of whom are wards of the state with little to no support and no expectation for gifts or visits. Second Wind Dreams receives wish lists from skilled nursing facilities which are matched with individual volunteers and corporate groups who shop, donate and/or deliver the gifts on Christmas Eve and Christmas. During the visit, volunteers spend time with their adopted elders, sharing holiday stories and traditions while creating a sense of delight and connectivity for the elders.

“The wishes we receive are usually quite simple - clothing, socks and underwear for instance, or personal care items, blankets, stuffed animals, or sugar-free candy.” said Founder and CEO, P.K. Beville, “However, when you have nothing, these little items can make a big difference.”

The Gifts of Light program would not be possible without the generosity of Second Wind Dreams’ dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors: Caesars Foundation, Optima Healthcare Solutions, Cox Enterprises, Georgia Public Library Services, WSB-TV Family2Family, KMS Technology, Porsche Club of America Peachstate Region, Atrium Hospitality, ADP, Levy Restaurants and Home Depot.

“It’s heartbreaking to imagine a person alone in a nursing home during the holidays and our goal is to ensure that is not their reality,” said P.K. Beville. “Last year we served over 1,500 elders thanks to our loyal sponsors and volunteers. In order to increase the number of skilled nursing facilities served, the Gifts of Light program aims to build and strengthen corporate partnerships across the country.”

The holiday season is a special time for Second Wind Dreams, as staff, volunteers, donors, and corporate sponsors come together to change the lives of elders through the Gifts of Light program, bringing the spirit of the holidays back to elderly communities across the US.
