The first BRNA General Assembly successfully held in Hainan

The first General Assembly of the Belt and Road News Alliance (BRNA) has successfully concluded on November 29th, in Westin Hotel in Lingshui, Hainan. Twenty-nine full members from 22 countries and regions, one partner institution and one observer attended the meeting. The meeting focused on discussions on the operating mechanism and future developments of and within the alliance.

The first General Assembly of the Belt and Road News Alliance (BRNA) has successfully concluded on November 29th, in Westin Hotel in Lingshui, Hainan. Twenty-nine full members from 22 countries and regions, one partner institution and one observer attended the meeting. The meeting focused on discussions on the operating mechanism and future developments of and within the alliance.

During the meeting, news exchange platform BRNA LINK, which is independently designed and developed by CCTV News Content (CCTV+), was unveiled for the first time. This platform can be used by all members of the alliance, for uploading, displaying and downloading video news materials. In 2018, the alliance plans to continue developing new methods in order to improve the platform. The members have also discussed the nomination and election system for the BRNA Executive Board, and approved the BRNA Statutes. The alliance also plans to carry out further collaborations with all members along the “Belt and Road” in setting up a news gathering and reporting support network, starting tailored training programs, and the R&D process of Media Lab project.

Under the auspices of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television of China, the BRNA was initiated by China Central Television, and was officially launched on May 14th,2017, in a parallel meeting of the first “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation. To date, 63 media institutions from 35 countries and regions along the Belt and Road have signed up to join the alliance. The mission of the BRNA shall be to help major media institutions within countries and regions along the Belt and Road and in other regions around the world in sharing news resources, exploring new ideas on news reporting and mass communication and creating advanced technologies, in order to improve overall news communication for all members.
