Also carry a first aid kit including medications, multi-tool, battery-powered radio, flashlights with spare batteries, personal hygiene items, important documents, emergency contact info, cell phones, chargers, extra clothes and blankets, matches, duct tape, spare house and car keys, and some cash on hand. For those with pets: food, water bowl, identification, health records, treats and a sturdy collar and leash are vital for your pet’s protection,” the HAGA expert advised.
A survival pack should also be customized to meet the needs of all family members. Specific medications especially for seniors should be considered, as well as diapers and other baby supplies for families with infants and toddlers.
“If there’s still space in your survival pack, throw in some entertainment items for your family and pets to pass the time and induce calmness while waiting for help to arrive. A deck of cards, small board games and toys for your kids and pets are good examples. Just make sure your survival pack is still easy to carry, otherwise it will be difficult to move during an emergency evacuation.” added the expert.
