Ultimate Disaster Survival Pack List Revealed by HAGA Expert

Preparedness is key to a family's survival during and after a disaster
A disaster preparedness expert from Home and Garden America gives advice on what to include in a complete survival pack.

Carson City, NV - September 20, 2017 - Nowadays, it seems that disaster can strike at any given moment. Even places that typically do not get affected by a particular type of calamity have become vulnerable to it. For instance, floods have always been a common phenomenon in Asia but now they have unusually been affecting areas in Europe and the U.S. as well. Hurricanes Harvey and Irma are the most recent example of this. Such is the terrifying effect of climate change—it makes catastrophes get worse year after year. In times like this, learning some survival skills and preparing a disaster survival pack can truly go a long way.

Home and Garden America (HAGA), an expert in survival gardening and preparedness, commends households that equip themselves for future disasters by keeping a survival pack.

“We may not be able to avoid disasters, but we can certainly prepare ourselves for the worse. This is why having a complete survival pack is crucial—it can feed a family and save lives in a grave situation. It can make the difference between life and death,” says an expert from HAGA.

For a survival pack to be effective, it must have all the right essentials. A 3-day supply is often ideal for disaster situations.

“For each family member, pack non-perishable food items to last 3 days and 3 gallons of water. Also carry a first aid kit including medications, multi-tool, battery-powered radio, flashlights with spare batteries, personal hygiene items, important documents, emergency contact info, cell phones, chargers, extra clothes and blankets, matches, duct tape, spare house and car keys, and some cash on hand. For those with pets: food, water bowl, identification, health records, treats and a sturdy collar and leash are vital for your pet’s protection,” the HAGA expert advised.

A survival pack should also be customized to meet the needs of all family members. Specific medications especially for seniors should be considered, as well as diapers and other baby supplies for families with infants and toddlers.

“If there’s still space in your survival pack, throw in some entertainment items for your family and pets to pass the time and induce calmness while waiting for help to arrive. A deck of cards, small board games and toys for your kids and pets are good examples. Just make sure your survival pack is still easy to carry, otherwise it will be difficult to move during an emergency evacuation.” added the expert.

With all these items listed above, a family can have the ultimate survival pack to survive any disaster. Whether it’s an earthquake, hurricane or tornado, those who are well-prepared will always be ready to handle any emergency.
