Terrence Griffin is a Man on a Mission!

San Diego, California, USA - July 25th, 2017 - A passionate philanthropist and entrepreneur (Terrence Griffin) - he challenged himself to find a way to disrupt the traditional charity circuit.   In his day to day life working with athletes, and being a former athlete - he had a passion for raising awareness for CTE. He also knew he was looking for a platform to raise awareness for CTE by also incorporating others who had passions for their non-profits. His idea was simple- have targeted events where more than one charity or organization could benefit. That’s when Compete for Causes was born.

There are 1.5M registered nonprofits in the US.  Of those, 12, 812 exist in San Diego County - more than 60% of those organizations are fueled by private donations - more than 25% of the national average.  Typically, events have one organization that benefits from their efforts. Griffin, from Pacific Sotheby's, a well-known force in the real estate industry and whose client list spans the who's who of athletes knew he was onto something.

“I knew that there had to be a way to create a platform that would benefit more than one charity at a time.  I have done golf tournaments and galas - the traditional namesakes within the nonprofit world - but there is typically only one person that benefit - I wanted to create a way for people to highlight heroes and underdogs of the nonprofit world”, said Terrence.

The next event for this unique athletic competition platform is The Celebrity Dodgeball Classic which will be taking place October 7 & 8 at Viejas Casino & Resort in Alpine, CA - just 20 minutes east of San Diego. 32 Teams will compete to win their portion of $32,000.  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will each take home prize money for their charities of choice. Compete for Causes will take a percentage of the funds raised and direct them to CTE Focused nonprofits

Strategist, Maresa Friedman of Executive Cat Herder, selected the Viejas Venue for a variety of reasons - but the main was the opportunity to provide attendees with an experiential event atmosphere in a Stay & Play weekend. “I think with these type of events, your goal is to find a partner with your venue that has a passion for impact & change - the way you do.  It was incredibly important for us to source and select a venue the was focused on creating and cultivating inspiring moments and creating long lasting legacies.  We are so honored that Viejas is our champion- and we look forward to bringing Vegas to Viejas.”

The first in a line of recurring events the Celebrity Dodgeball Classic will be a showcase of the Compete For Causes founding partners which includes San Diego Heavy Hitters like Shadae Mayfield, of SDGE, Andre Kwan of Purchase Lending, Corey Morrison of WestPacWealth Partners, William Mond of Mond Law Firm, & Angie Schultz of Opposable Thumbs.
