Starbucks, the world’s leading coffeehouse chain, is planning to spend almost $120 million in expanding its Augusta plant in Georgia. The project was due to increasing demands for Starbucks line of products.

The $120 million plant expansion project was announced by the coffee giant through its website during the first week of June 2016. The expansion will expand the current facilities from 180,000 square meters to a massive 320,000 square meter floor area.

Starbucks management announced that construction project, which was prompted by the increase in demand for their products, is expected to begin this summer and finish in fall 2019. According to their website, the project is expected to generate 100 more jobs for the citizens of Georgia.

Tim Filipowski reportedly said that the new employees would include a range of positions to fill in the hands needed to get the plant functioning properly. According to him one in six Augusta plant employees are armed forces veterans or military spouses.

“Because of the technical nature of our business here, we have recruited heavily for automation specialists, operators, mechanics and technicians,” said Filipowski. “Generally, the folks coming out of the service have some or all of those experiences.”

The Augusta plant maintains its close relationships with the Fort Gordon which is only 20 minutes away. Starbucks occasionally conducts various programs inside the Fort such as job fairs, plant tours, and Adopt a Unit Program.

Starbucks is also known to support the Annual Fisher House Golf Tournament. The fundraising event caters to patients who are receiving treatment at the Military and Veterans Administration medical centers.

Starbuck’s Augusta plant in the second largest city in Georgia was opened in July 2012. It was Starbucks first company-owned facility that produced their soluble products. The facility produces Starbucks famed VIA® Instant, the coffee base of its Frappuccino line, and other canned and bottled beverages

The original facilities then two coffee roasters will be increased to eight once the expansion project is finished. This would allow the company to distribute packaged coffee to Starbucks retails stores in the Northeast and the Southeast United States.
