Bail Reform CA. Benefactors Are Well Funded Criminals And Local Gangs

Welcome To California!
Political Strategy To Pass Bail Reform Is to Guilt CA. Residences To Fund Crime

May 30, 2017 - Assemblyman Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) and Senator Robert Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) are attempting to get CA. residents to pay for defendants and make them feel guilty if they don't support AB 42 and SB10 – the California Money Bail Reform Act. Bail Reform eliminates defendants from having to post bail and allows for their immediate release with no accountability to the courts, law enforcement or you—the public.

Salesmanship is key with Bail Reform. Assemblyman Rob Bonta and Senator Robert Hertzberg market the initiative via minority children toting signs that say "Poverty is not a crime." Everyone agrees. Poverty is not a crime. Committing heinous acts is a crime.

Bail reform protects the bottom line of organized crime, human traffickers, and gangs that take advantage of the most vulnerable. Bail reform applies to the local heroin dealer that sells to high school kids; the car-jacker who just took your ride; the burglar that stole everything from your home; the pedophile arrested in your neighborhood; and child pornographers caught with a film. Bail Reform covers these criminals under the mask of "Poverty is not a crime". These people are not poor. They are well funded by their crimes. The advocates of this bill would have us believe that poor people commit these crimes. Poor people don't commit crimes. Criminals commit crimes. Poverty is not a crime - stealing, abusing and molesting are crimes, and low-income families are equally victimized by these criminals.

Take a moment to read Assemblyman Rob Bonta's statement and enthusiasm for Bail Reform   (https://a18.asmdc.org/press-releases/bonta-statement-california-democratic-party-adopting-money-bail-resolution) He compares Bail reform to universal healthcare, EP,  education and housing affordability. His goal seems to be to make crime affordable for everyone in California.

On 5/22/17  the Assembly Appropriations Committee concluded Bail Reform would cost CA. hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars for pretrial services and tens to hundreds of millions for court-appointed attorneys to defend cases http://bit.ly/2pH9QwB. The current bail system prevents this. So while good citizens are paying more, criminals pay nothing and can get their gang back into action without interruption.

What is our recourse when California leaders post to Facebook and Twitter about how happy they are that bail reform is "gaining steam." Who will stop this train wreck?

It has to be us. Law-abiding citizens must write their politicians and support private Bail Bond companies.

One of the companies engulfed in this battle is Lipstick Bail Bonds

Lipstick Bail Bonds provides bail bonds in Santa Ana, CA. as well as bail bonds in Orange County, LA County and throughout California. They are currently working with Dog the Bounty Hunter out of Hawaii and other California bail agencies to stop this bail out.  California has a private bail system where bail bond companies incur all the cost and risk associated with fugitive recovery. Teresa Golt of Lipstick Bail Bonds explains the real numbers that you pay for bail.

"Typically bonds go for as low as 7% of the total bail amount set by a judge with very little or nothing as a deposit." Bail agents do not charge interest. Payments are determined by what a family or individual can pay and negotiated with the bondsman. Most time periods run longer than a year. The 10% number toted by Bail reform, while still not very high, is the maximum allowed, and rarely ever negotiated. It is the government and judges that set bail cost high based on the crime, not bail bond companies. Here’s an example of real numbers.

  • Drug possession/ Gov't set bail $10,000 = Actual cost with 7% Bail Bond $700
  • DUI / Govt. set bail  $10,000= Actual cost with 7% Bail Bond $700
  • Sexual Offenses-Armed with Firearm or Deadly Weapon/Gov. set bail amount $50,000 actual amount of bail paid with 7%  bail bond $3500
  • Drug dealer with priors selling to minors $100,000=$7,000 Bail

You can pick your crime here and determine the bail amount: California Bail Cost

The bottom line is that there is no accountability under this law to get the bad guys to show up in court or to have law enforcement bring them in. With the current system, bail bondsman bring in the  offenders with no cost to the public. The new reform solves nothing, emboldens criminals, and puts all citizens and law enforcement at much greater risk.

Get informed, speak out, and be sure to vote against Bail Reform and those who are failing to protect the most vulnerable in our state — us.
