Aculon, Inc. Board of Directors Appoints CEO, Edward Hughes, as Chairman

San Diego, CA (May, 2017) – Aculon, Inc., a leading surface modification company that specializes in creating ultra-thin film treatments to modify surfaces to make them repellant or to promote adhesion, today announced that its board of directors has appointed Edward Hughes as the company’s Chairman of the Board. Hughes currently serves as the company’s CEO.

“Since becoming CEO, Hughes has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to the company’s innovative-focused mission and culture,” said Rick Elkus an independent board member. “Hughes’ experience, leadership and entrepreneurialism make him the right person to lead the company.”

Hughes has been chief executive officer of Aculon since 2008 and has been serving on the company’s Board of Directors since joining. Under Hughes leadership, Aculon has successfully transformed from a pre-revenue company to a leader in surface modification technologies with three core businesses - Electronics, Oil & Gas and Specialty markets. In 2010, Aculon launched their own electronics business and are now the clear leader in nanocoating of stencils with their award winning NanoClear® products. In 2015, Aculon launched NanoProof® a series of best in class waterproofing technology for PCB’s.

Prior to Aculon, Hughes was Founder and CEO of PowerMetal Technologies, a nanotechnology applications company focused on the Sporting Goods Industries. He also holds almost 20 years of experience in senior leadership roles in the golf industry including at TaylorMade Adidas Golf and Maxfli Golf and consumer product companies such as Pilsbury.

Hughes serves as President of the Harvard Business School Club of San Diego, is a former member of the Young Presidents Organization, and is an advisory board member to Junto Global, a peer to peer education platform for young entrepreneurs and professionals. Hughes earned his Masters Degree from Cambridge University in England and his MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a George F. Baker Scholar. He also teaches business at the MBA program at University of California, Irvine.
