On September 8, the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ will be the site of a match between Colombia and Peru. This match will pit the fourth best team in the world according to the latest FIFA/Coca Cola world rankings in Colombia against the 49th best team in the latest rankings, Peru.
Colombia is one of the most talented national teams in the world and features the 24-year-old superstar in the making James Rodriguez. Rodriguez plays his club ball for Real Madrid and made a major impression at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Rodriguez is also joined on the pitch by other stars like Carlos Bacca, Carlos Sanchez, Teofilo Gutierrez, Cristian Zapata, and David Ospina. This match will mark the first time Colombia plays on American soil this year and will be their eighth match of the year. They have suffered just a single defeat at the hands of Venezuela and had impressive wins against Costa Rica and Brazil.
Peru is coming off a stellar performance at the 2015 Copa America tournament where they finished in third place. In that tournament, Peru earned tough wins against Venezuela, Bolivia, and Paraguay. They nearly advanced to the finals of the tournament against Chile but came up just a goal short. Peru is a team that is led by Juan Manuel Vargas, Jefferson Farfan, Paolo Guerrero, Claudio Pizarro, and Rinaldo Cruzado.
Red Bull Arena is the home of the New York Red Bulls and since opening in 2010 has been filled some with of the most soccer happy fans in the United States. The venue can seat more than 25,000 fans and will need each seat when this friendly match is held.
