A team of NYU film school graduates have created the first “TV” series for Instagram–written and formatted specifically for smartphone viewing. The comedy-adventure series, titled Artistically Challenged, spans thirty-two episodes, each only fifteen seconds long and available exclusively on the series Instagram account @ACtheSeries.

Artistically Challenged was written, and produced by Aleks Arcabascio, Jeremy Boros, and Samuel Delmara. The series was shot over two weeks throughout New York City in more than twenty locations with a volunteer crew of over twenty five–including many NYU alumni and current students–with a cast of more than thirty professional actors. Boros, stars as Nick, the series lead, while Arcabascio and Delmara each directed half the episodes. “Instagram is an untapped frontier for original video content, and as filmmakers, we saw it as a unique opportunity to make a ‘TV’ show for everyone with a smartphone and a free Instagram account,” said the creators of Artistically Challenged.

The episodes follow the story of Nick Romaine, a struggling young artist in New York City, who tells a small lie and becomes an overnight celebrity only to find that his success comes with a hefty price. Throughout the episodes, Nick scrambles through sticky situations with crazed fans, pirates, henchmen, eccentric collectors and powerful dealers of the elite New York art world. Mary McCann, founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company in New York, stars in several episodes as Bonnie, the series’ cunning and ruthless art collector villain. “Sometimes, storytelling means bringing a story to people in unconventional ways,” said the creators of Artistically Challenged. “We noticed that people browsed Instagram on the subway, on the street, even waiting for a movie to begin, so we decided to tell our story right on their cell phone screens.”

Viewers can watch the first seven episodes when the series premieres July 1st by following the Instagram account: @ACtheSeries.

The following week, starting July 7th, new episodes will be released once a day until the end of July. Behind-the-scenes photos, posters, and bonus materials will be posted on the series website: www.ACtheSeries.com
